Zax: A multi-purpose hand tool used by slaters to shape and punch holes in roofing slates.
Z Bar: A type of metal counterflashing formed in the shape of a “Z” and typically used on stucco or wood-clad walls.
Zinc: A bluish-white, lustrous metallic element that is brittle at room temperature but malleable when heated. It is generally not subject to corrosion. It is used to form a wide variety of alloys including brass, bronze, various solders, and nickel silver; it is used to galvanize iron and steel, and for electric fuses, anodes, and meter cases, and in roofing, gutters, flashings, edge metals and also for various household objects. Zinc Oxide: A white powder, ZnO, which is insoluble in water and used as an additive in a number of industrial applications. Paints containing zinc oxide are commonly used as anti-corrosive coatings on metal surfaces.
Zoning: The regulation by a municipality of the use of land and buildings in order to direct, control, promote, or restrict development.
